Lake House | Thorsen | Single Sidelight | Cottage | Pasadena Dutch | Butler

Another unique feature of Greene and Greene doors is the "sub rail" located just above the lower rail, or horizontal piece. The sub rail is thinner than the main rail and thicker than the flat panel, adding another layer, emphasizing the depth, and enhancing the texture. There is a sumptuous way in which the Greenes built up layer upon layer of detail in their woodwork.

This entrance to a small guest cottage was inspired by the side light doors on the grand entrance of the Gamble House in Pasadena, the Greene and Greene masterpiece. Where the originals have stained glass panels in the lower portion, I placed solid flat wood panels.

A hinged interior door and a pair of sliders from the same project. They maintain the same general design but without the cloud lift found in the entry door
