Us is really just me, Gerry Brown. My background is in construction, starting out as a carpenter and then general contractor and designer. When I got tired of the physical demands of building, I moved into sales and management with a large post and beam company. Moving into the office was, all in all, a worthwhile experience. Ultimately, though, I found that I missed being involved in making things. I quit the post and beam job and spent a summer studying classical relief carving with British master carver, Ian Agrell, in San Francisco. Other than my time studying with Ian, I'm self-taught. In 1996 I established my shop in downtown Asheville, North Carolina. I share my life with glass artist Catharine Brown, and when we aren't working, we are off kayaking, riding my Honda Goldwing, or walking with our two Papillons, Jeep and Leo. I'm also trying to learn how to play the dobro.
